Pipe Joints

Pacific States ductile iron pipe is manufactured with a variety of pipe joints that will meet most any design or service situation.

All of Pacific States pipe joints are capable of handling rated working pressures (tables are located on page 23-26) plus 100 psi water hammer or surge. In addition, all pipe joints can withstand high negative pressures. This important feature eliminates back siphonage of contamination through the pipe joints when negative pressure does occur. Also, high external pressures do not result in infiltration into gravity sewers constructed of ductile iron pipe utilizing these joints.

The restrained joint mechanisms are simple but effective and afford deflection without compromising joint tightness. Joint assembly is straightforward in each case; however, proper procedures are emphasized. In addition to assuring that all joint components are clean at the time of assembly, there are lubrication requirements important to joint integrity. Lubrication of the interior gasket surface on push-on joints is intended to facilitate smooth entry of the beveled spigot and thus avoid rolling of the gasket during assembly. With the mechanical joint, lubrication ensures that torque applied to create compression on the gasket by the gland will not change due to slight movement of the gasket after assembly.
